At this point, I fully expect Dick Tomey to be our head football coach for the next three seasons. He may have interest in the AD job at Hawaii, but he made it clear that it would take a "very, very compelling opportunity" to arise to make him leave SJSU. Herman Frazier made $250K a year, which is considerably less than Tomey currently makes as SJSU's head coach. I just don't see Hawaii wanting Tomey's services bad enough to double the AD positions salary just to make it "very, very compelling". It's been reported that their first choice is Tom Donovan, the director of the Hawaii Bowl. He has strong ties to the Hawaii business community, and that is where they need to focus their efforts (ie fundrasiing for the athletics programs). I believe that Hawaii will figure they've got the football aspect covered if they hire Greg McMackin as their new head coach, and cover the fundraising issue with Donovan as the AD (at a much smaller salary than it would take to convince Tomey to leave SJSU).
