The various pleas here and elsewhere -- well, there's certainly nothing wrong at all with them but I hope the writers of such realize they will have no effect and aren't part of the Coach Tomey's equation in determining whether to stay here or go to Hawaii.
It is always nice to know that you are wanted -- no doubt about it. However, coaches don't read this stuff -- let's say they have more important things to do.
If anything, Coach Tomey is having an internal dialogue about the situation he is facing. He knows his job is not yet done here -- a WAC championship would be the conclusion -- but he also has some degree of allegiance to Hawaii (the school) and the islands. We may not like that but it's something that should be acknowledged.
My sense is that holding the AD position there for 4-5 years would be the perfect way for him to ride off into the sunset -- not the coaching job. He would have a greater chance for an impact as the AD. A lateral transfer with the job not yet done here isn't the Coach Tomey I believe I know.
But I've been wrong before...
It's curious that it's not blatant shortcomings at his present school that is the conundrum for Tomey. It's the feeling he has for Hawaii. I wouldn't want to be in his shoes as there is no clear cut path for him to take. He will feel he is letting down one of the parties regardless of his final decision.
