Funny you should ask. Looking at the nine players that have reportedly verbaled to Hawaii, four of them are from Texas, which is more than half of the total number of Texas players on the entire Hawaii 2007 roster. The highest regarded commit thus far is WR Attrail Snipes from Bakersfield JC. His verbal is somewhat tentative. Should he receive a PAC-10 offer, he would probably go for it. He may or may not have the academic standing to get an offer from SMU.
Makes me wonder how long Jones knew he was headed to SMU. With the higher than average Texas recruits, and his comments dissing Florida QB Tim Tebow, (despite Hawaii opening the 2008 season in Gainsville), I gotta believe he'd been planning his depature from quite some time.
I doubt Jones' departure will hurt Hawaii's recruiting on the islands one bit. However, thus far, they only have one commit from Hawaii. Their recruiting on the mainland is another matter. Should their search for a new head coach drag on for three weeks, that will pose a problem. To compound the issue, there may not be an AD in place to hire a new head coach. AD searches typeically take longer, so it may be up to the school president to higher the football coach.
What a mess, espcecially for a team that was riding so high a week ago.
