I don't know about the coach but I do remember the game against SDSU that you talk about. I was there and it was one of the few times that the atmosphere was positively electric and the game lived up to the charged atmosphere. It was great and Rogers' leaving was a sad time indeed.

: Not even close. Darryl Rogers. He brought us
: to the next level. Before DR we were a
: local unimportant football program. He
: raised us to Pac 10 level of competition and
: did it while taking over a Dewey King team
: that was less than mediocre. We never had a
: losing season with him as coach. Our win on
: national ABC television over Claude
: Gilbert's nationally ranked San Diego State
: (we also ended up nationally ranked--I
: believe for the first time) team with a full
: Spartan Stadium rocking was a classic I will
: never forget. We blew them away. He
: instilled tremendous discipline in the
: players. If he spoke to the entire team he
: could whisper and the whole team was totally
: quiet and leaning forward to catch his every
: word. They would go through a wall for the
: man. Had we enlarged Spartan Stadium like
: he asked he would not have left us for
: Michigan State. He was actually filling the
: stadium with his exciting teams. Later in
: his career he wanted to return here (after
: stints at MSU, ASU and the Detroit Lions)
: but we went with Dave Baldwin.

: Who do you think was the best coach out that
: list below Roers, Elway, Gilbert and Shea? I
: would personally pick Gilbert but I am sure
: everyone has there own professional opinion.
