According to the computer rankings, the 1990 Spartans were the highest ranked San Jose State team since 1950 (when SJSU stopped being ranked under the small college category). The 1990 Spartans, Big West Conference and California Raisen Bowl Champions, finished the season as the #17 team in the nation. The next highest rated team was the 1975 team, finishing at #18. Only (4) Spartan teams have finished in the Top 25 since 1950 (1975, 1986, 1987, and 1990).
The lowest ranked team in SJSU history since 1950 were the 2004 Spartans (#113), closely followed by the 2005 squad (#111). Three of the four lowest ranked teams were coached by Fitz Hill.
