Gotta believe SJSU was lukewarm or backed off. Either that or the kid didn't want to compete for the starting job. Montana State is quite the drop in levels. Anyway, here it is:
MSU lands transfer QB
Scott Mansch
Tribune Asst. Sports Editor
Montana State's football program addressed perhaps its most pressing need Wednesday with the signing of quarterback Mark Iddins, a transfer from Santa Ana (Calif.) Junior College.
"He's a very complete quarterback in the sense that he's an excellent passer and can also run well," MSU head coach Rob Ash said. "We evaluated lots and lots of quarterbacks and Mark was the guy who rose to the top of the pack..."
...Iddins, a 6-3, 205-pounder from Mukilpeo, Wash., threw for 2,432 yards and 17 touchdowns this season at Santa Ana. He was also offered a scholarship from San Jose State, said Santa Ana head coach Geoff Jones.
"Mark's one of the best guys who have been through here in awhile," said Jones, Santa Ana's coach the last six seasons. "He's really bright and a super accurate thrower ... He's very polished and ready to go. You guys are getting a really good one."
The Bobcats finished 6-5 last fall in Ash's first season and enter spring camp without any experience to speak of at quarterback. Iddins, who completed 52 percent of his passes and threw only six interceptions in 10 games last fall, is regarded as an intelligent athlete with above-average speed. He rallied Santa Ana from a 40-7 deficit to a 65-64 victory over Pasadena City College on Nov. 17, throwing for 407 yards and four touchdowns.
"He's the full package," Jones said. "He's a student, an athlete and a leader. He's the kind of guy you want to coach and the kind of guy a team can really rally around."
