I responded to Nic (Mr. Covad) R and his original post for a few reasons:
Accusing the team of giving up truly requires getting inside the heads of the players and somehow determining that each one is quitting during a particular game.
Try explaining why you are doing so and ask each player if he gave up.
If someone wishes to speculate using something like body language or the like, then state so.
Then readers will know what a particular speculation is based on.
Turnovers, missed baskets and missed free throws, forgetting to play defense do not indicate giving up. That is silly.
Ring Tom Bowen up and ask him why he left early. Why speculate? You don't know why, neither do I. therefore I put no slant on it.
Complaining about his not saying good by -- well, that just comes off as childish.
To me, NicR's post was the typical drivel that drives talk radio and messageboards. It's simpleton-itis magnified.
It's fine to state opinions but then back 'em up with why you feel that way -- what the basis is. Otherwise, head to D.C. and become a White House spokesperson -- it pays much better.
