The Spartans could very well end up being very deep at tailback next year. However, there are still some questions that need to be answered (i.e. the return of Yonus Davis and the re-hab of Patrick Perry). Should Yonus be granted a medical redshirt, and Patrick come back 100%, we will be in great shape.
This year, the Spartans don't appear to be seriously recruiting a tailback from the JC ranks. That makes total sense, (being that there will be four juniors on the 2008 roster). Compton JC running back Erin Madden's name has come up, but his legal issues may have squashed any interest from Tomey's staff.
I think our need is more from the high school ranks, rather than the JC's. I'm hoping SJSU gets a committment from Simi Valley HS's Langston Jackson. At 6-1 205 lbs, he would be a rarity at San Jose State (a back with both size and speed).
Another wildcard, one that I've heard some great things about, is Alhambra HS running back Brandon Rutley. He signed with SJSU last year. Rumour has it he's delayed full-time enrollment (grey shirt).
Also look for Chris Reese, a converted linebacker to challenge for some serious playing time. He also sat out the 2007 season.
