Thanks Dudde. I may not donate as much as some of you or the other heavin hitters, but I give what I can. I haven't missed any home games in many years and go to several away games every year. Being a divorced father of two, it's tough to afford what I do. But I know my passion for SJS runs as deep as anybody elses.
: A couple of years ago, while I was helping out
: with the Spartan Foundation pledge drive,
: (making phone calls to various people that
: had previously donated), I had the
: oppontunity to call and speak with an
: elderly gentleman, living up in the North
: Bay. He was a retired teacher, and was
: around 80 years old. Although not in great
: health, he said he usually made it to a game
: or two in SJ each year. He was apologetic in
: that he could only afford to donate a small
: amount, as he was on a fixed income. After
: talking Spartan Football with him for 10 or
: 15 minutes, I gladly accepted his pledge of
: $25. Now to most of us, $25 is no big deal.
: But for someone in his position, counting
: every penny spent, it was much more of a
: sacrifice. In my mind, because that small
: donation came from his heart and was a
: sacrifice for him, he is just as great a
: Spartan fan as the wealthy donor that writes
: and annual check for $10K. Maybe more so in
: some cases. How much someone donates is poor
: way to gauge or judge their love for SJSU
: athletics.
:
: Just my 2 cents
