Yes. But not overnight. Just look at Boise State's ascent to winning a BCS Bowl Game. Was it one great season? No. It was a cumulative effort, over several decades. Three steps forward, one or two steps back. Year after year. Steady progress.
SJSU has made great progress over the past three years, but we started from rock bottom. Tomey being hired was one of the most important milestones in the history of the program. But, it won't mean a thing in the long run if SJSU stumbles when the time comes to hire his successor. That hire will be just as key as Tomey's. The wrong move could easily undo any progress that Tomey has made over his tenure.
So, in order to become the next Boise State, it will take continued success, over the next 10-15 years.
If I didn't think it could be done, I'd have to become a fan of USC, or Florida, or LSU. Yuck!
