Logan is pretty young for a high school senior. He just turned 17 a couple months ago and is still growing. I wouldn't be surprised to see him redshirt or play a position other than QB his first year wherever he goes.
: Thanks for the update. I like Budd's chances
: of getting an offer from SJSU. He is the
: type of player Tomey loves (versatile).
: Although, with Kyle Reed transfering from
: Cal with 3 years remaining, QB is not as big
: of a need for the Spartans.
:
:
: Here's more on Budd...
:
: ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: MORRO BAY HIGH’S LOGAN
: BUDD
:
: Morro Bay senior heavily relied upon by
: Pirates
: By Joshua D. Scroggin
:
: TRIBUNE PHOTO BY JAYSON MELLOM
:
: Morro Bay coach John Andree claims Logan
: Budd doesn’t drive the school bus to away
: games.
:
: Truthfully, nobody’s ever seen the star
: senior vending popcorn in the stands or
: working the scoreboard.
:
: There might a few other things Budd doesn’t
: do at football games. But it’s not a very
: long list.
:
: Budd, The Tribune’s Prep Athlete of the
: Week, has showcased all of his skills so far
: this season, rushing for more than 100 yards
: and passing for more than 100 in six
: combined quarters in each of his first two
: games.
:
: But the double-threat quarterback hasn’t
: stopped there. He’s kicked two field goals,
: had seven of his 13 kickoffs go four
: touchbacks and averages 38.5 yards on six
: punts.
:
: He’s passed for four touchdowns, run for two
: more, kicked seven PATs and his 18.5 points
: per game is enough to make Pirates
: basketball star Dylan Royer jealous.
:
: Oh, and Budd’s also the team’s shutdown
: corner on defense.
:
: And those are only the measurables.
:
: “It’s one of those things where he’s s able
: to get the kids to rally around him,” Andree
: said. “One of the kids knew when they looked
: at Logan’s eyes, they knew he was going to
: take it down the field for a score.
:
: “He leads by example. He just seems to be
: able to rally the troops.”
:
: If Morro Bay tight end/defensive lineman
: Jerome Long is a two-way player, Budd must
: go four ways. He’s even returned one kick
: this year, but that still might be under the
: minimum requirements for the five-way player
: hyperbole.
:
: With so many things to do, one might wonder
: what Budd likes best. He cleared up the
: mystery Monday at practice, and the answer
: was little surprise.
:
: “I try hard at everything I do, but I take
: the most pride in offense,” Budd said. “I
: really try to be a good double-threat
: quarterback, running and passing.”
:
: After leading Morro Bay to a second-place
: finish in the Los Padres League and a
: competitive playoff game against eventual
: state champion Oaks Christian last season,
: Budd in the offseason attended the Air 7
: Quarterback University Camp, where alumni
: like NFLers Ben Roethlisberger, Matt Leinart
: and J.P. Losman, as well as former Oaks
: Christian and current Notre Dame starter
: Jimmy Clausen, have trained.
:
: Budd is hoping to get recruited by colleges
: as a quarterback while running the Pirates’
: spread-option attack.
:
: He said he’d like to go to Cal Poly but is
: also pursuing scholarship opportunities at a
: number of other schools, including San Jose
: State.
:
: But he’s not hung up on playing quarterback
: at the next level.Whether it’s at kicker,
: punter or a positionless athlete coming in —
: it doesn’t really matter to Budd.
:
: That’s why you’ll see him out early at Morro
: Bay practice to make sure he can work on
: field goals, kickoffs and punts before
: taking snaps with the first-team offensive
: and defensive units during the regular
: session.
:
: “He’s worked really hard,” Andree said.
: “He’s a phenomenal athlete, excellent speed.
: He dedicated his whole summer to football
: and made himself a better quarterback. A lot
: of kids get by with just athleticism, but
: he’s a good football player.”
