Posted by bambi2godzilla on 8/2/2007, 11:23 am Arkansas Baptist College's first football team hit the practice field Wednesday. Nearly 200 prospective players hope to be a member of the Buffaloes, the state's only junior college football program. The team will face other junior college teams from around the region. The Buffaloes have an eight-game schedule. Two of the games will be played in Little Rock at War Memorial Stadium. Coach Richard Wilson led Wednesday's first pre-season practice. Fans will get their first chance to see the team during a Purple-White intrasquad game August 18 at War Memorial. Arkansas Baptist will compete as an independent in the National Junior College Athletic Association. Arkansas Baptist College president Dr. Fitz Hill began the drive to field a team last year, raising money from donations and sponsorships. Arkansas Baptist will also field teams in men's and women's basketball. Arkansas Baptist Buffaloes 2007 Schedule: Sept. 1 (Saturday) -- Trinity Valley Community College, Athens, TX., 7 p.m.
63.249.102.18
Fitz Hill has introduced sports teams, including football, at his new location. I know that everyone loves to dump on him -- my take is that nobody, including Dick Tomey, could have won with the support Hill received -- but the true culprit is Chuck Bell, who singlehandedly sunk the entire SJSU Athletic Department with his bizarre hiring decisions and willingness to not just live with but maintain the status quo.
