Mark and long time Spartan fans know that Stanford has always had the biggest stadium, that's why we've set attendance records in Palo Alto...especially when both teams are winning.
1984: SJS 27, Stanford 28: 70,426 attendance record was set on Sept. 22nd.
1983: SJS 23, Stanford 10: 68,201
1985: SJS 07, Stanford 41: 68,000
1981: SJS 28, Stanford 06: 67,888
1987: SJS 24, Stanford 17: 67,500
1986: SJS 10, Stanford 28: 64,950
1980: SJS 21, Stanford 35: 61,127
1982: SJS 35, Stanford 31: 60,789
As previously mentioned, Stanford stadium is closer to downtown San Jose than the Rose Bowl is to the UCLA Campus.
: I don't know about the rest of you, but as a
: longtime SJS fan, I've never considered
: Stanford to be "road" game in the
: traditional sense. After this game is played
: in the same county and it's 18 miles from
: SJS! It's more like high school football in
: the valley - in the sense that the teams
: don't play road games - you either play at
: "home" or "away".
: Fresno St. is a "road" game. ASU
: is a "road" game. KSU is a
: "road" game. Stanford is an
: "away" game. We always have a big
: contingent of fans there and our SJS fans
: always make more noise than Stanfords. With
: the exception of sometimes getting homered
: by the PAC-10 refs, this is more of a
: neutral site game.
