Posted by Rat on 6/9/2007, 5:30 pm, in reply to "Re: interesting article" Ed also bought full page or half page ads in "Lyke" our national award-wining campus feature magazine, along with ads in the Spartan Daily throughout the year. I was involved in illustrating one of his new locations while with Lyke. Ed let the student talent design and photograph his ads for Lyke using student models wearing his traditional clothing. Some ads were classic. One shows a silk banner being held aloft on So. 11th Street with two well-dressed students under it, a guy and a gal. They are surrounded by a casually dressed group of slobs. That same banner was taken to Arkansas for the Ark State-SJS game in Little Rock a few years back. A camera crew from, I believe, San Jose broadcast the footage of Spartan rooters under that banner. Ed had brought it with him. It was the same gold and white silk banner that appeared in his a old 1960 Lyke magazine ad. It reads: WIN ! Every Spartan alum should try to visit Mosher's the next time they are near the downtown Fairmont Hotel. In 1982 Ed wasn't downtown. In fact there was not one men's store in downtown San Jose in 1982 when I went looking to buy a tie for a dressy function at Santa Clara University. I ended up out at Sears buying a cheap tie. The Rat Line is running photos of some of the old Mosher's Ltd. stores in this summer issue now under production.

Ed Mosher employed many of his DU fraternity brothers, plus other Greeks. Almost everyone I knew had bought at least one blazer from Mosher's in the sixties...even though Vaughn's always seemed to be having a "2 for 1" Sale every other month just down the street.
