Once her daughter has gone, Lycoris climbs the highest peak of Andarin, through the earthquakes, lighting strikes, fires, floods, hurricanes and the end.
That is, whatever the end is like.
Turning around at the top, amongst fog and foliage and flusters, Lycoris starts to run.
Her body speeds down the slopes with laughter and howls that rip from her soul.
No matter what happens to the earth, Bifröst sprawls beneath her in bridges and slides. It drags up masses of waves of colours against the elements as they feed off the greed for power that would be the end.
Bifröst will protect her, as she leaps and runs and howls and giggles, with paths of garden sprawling under each step. The rainbows will keep the speckled mare safe until it’s all gone.
Lycoris does not stop running. Her bright amber eyes weep and weep, with the laughter that feels like it will break her chest in two. The smell of death is rank on the air and burns the insides of her nostrils, as she does not stop. She gets to the bottom of one mountain, and her body trawls up the next, to dance along the ridges, and kick greenery through the stones.
She laughs a sound, that ricochets her thanks to the land against granite, and it glows with her euphoria…
…because even in the end, she knew everything, everything would be alright.
For the last time, Lycoris spreads her sunshine through her home.
