He cannot stop the words - and why would he? Here where they stand new again not King and Oracle but stallion and mare with the kind of candidness he had always felt in her presence. God, how he had missed her! As fond as her memory had been when he thought of her, it was nothing compared to the baptismal light of her presence. He could feel the years ripple off of him in the glow of her smile, and a great weight lift from his shoulders when she moves toward him and just when he begins to entertain the idea that he did not travel back to the Element, but is dreaming still, she touches him again.
Miss me no longer, he replies, and as a smile of his own laughs its way onto his lips as he embraces her, curling his great neck around her silken own. I have missed you too.
He reaches fondly for her ears but falls shy of touching them he cannot expect things to be as they were, after all and so it is only his breath that trespasses, coiling down her neck in steam-like curls. Things have changed, you know? It pains him to wonder how much, but he only nods thoughtfully, settling as she leans on his side. But I will always love you.
I had to go. He whispers, and knows not if he intends the words for her, or for his own conscience. I did not think I would be away so long. I thought of you, every moment and if my absence caused you any pain, I a sharp breath, held and then released, I understand if you have
moved on. Tell me to leave, and I will. To know you are safe and happy is my only desire.
He presses his lips against her crest and sighs deeply (and oh, how the scent of summer flowers caresses his face),
But at least tell me what change three years has brought?

In the End, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends.
