Home.
The word had been hovering, spoken only once and even then only in the silence of her mind upon her return to the mountains. She had spent her time much as she always spent her time - walking. Walking and listening, following air, and singing songs with birds she'd never thought she'd see again. She had visited Kale's grave; she'd known it when he'd passed, his star which had flickered so brilliantly dimming and finally disappearing from the sky. She had not slept those long hours before and the even longer hours after, holding vigil for her king; the only king she would willingly follow into the darkness even if it meant being utterly swallowed by it. It is from there that she is returning when the birds begin to sing a different song, wind turning, warming, carrying the scent and voice of someone she'd both longed and dreaded to see.
Fei was not one to break her promises. And yet, that is exactly what she had done when she'd left, not once, but twice. She hesitates, and then smiles as the smaller mare presses into her as though they'd never parted, anxieties washed away as easily as wind sends dandelions skyward, everything replaced by the single, almost overwhelming sensation of being home.
The Range simply was not home without Nyota's smiling face.
"Of course. As long as you are here, I will always come back."
