‘Are you happy now? They’re pretty.’
Stymie stops. The moonlight illuminates the stark peaks of the mountains, which rise from the horizon suddenly so huge and immediate before her.
They seemed so much smaller from Desreal. But then again, distance tends to do that to things.
Her emerald eyes widen, and she turns to cast a glance at Nightshade, who hovers invisible and rather snide off to her right. “They are, though I’m not entirely sure what to do…” she admits, dropping her delicate muzzle slightly and turning away from the weasel-shaped shadow that cocks an eyebrow at her (to the extent that a creature that is a silhouette with star-eyes can have expressions).
‘Are you attempting to draw upon my vast quantities of kingdom-life experience by turning to me for advice?’
“No,” sings Stymie, shifting her weight slightly as a gust of wind catches her long mane and scatters it across the coil of her graceful neck.
Stymie looks a bit like she shouldn’t exist for real – but then again, she’s Kurai’s daughter, and Alshain’s granddaughter, so she probably shouldn’t.
She wishes she could’ve stayed in Desreal. She’s convinced that she would have met her father eventually, have spoken to him. She would’ve liked that. Stymie doesn’t do well with structure – well, she’s never tried before. She hasn’t yet committed herself to any one reality for long enough to do anything like this.
‘You wouldn’t have survived in Desreal,’ Sometimes Stymie wishes that Nightshade couldn’t sense her thoughts. ‘Dying might not effect you that much, but I think you’d find that it would have some adverse effects on your relationships.’
But Stymie starts walking, leaving the rest of Nightshade’s comments to nothing but the empty chill of night – Nightshade leaps into Stymie’s shadow and there she hides.
Andarin, come meet the nightingale.
