Artaxxas is the girl that looks at the heart of darkness and says, what’s that?
I like her already.
Not to say the piece of stone at our feet – useless without a master and even more so in Andürien’s unyielding presence – is evil or even dark. I just don’t think it is – I think it just wants to survive, whatever way. But then, what I think and what is, is something else altogether.
I don’t think you’ll fail us, Artaxxas, I sigh, the winds sigh, because I know: I know it will find its way, sooner or later. Maybe not here, maybe somewhere else, but I have done my homework as a guardian, thankyouverymuch, and didn’t even get a complimentary hug. You’re far too strong for things as trivial as failure. Me, now, that’s another matter…
Alas.
I know a bit about it, through the Stone’s keeper. How lovely, first-hand knowledge. I know this is what gives us power. But it also has a mind of its own… a mind without morals, see. It does as it pleases, and the host is just that, a host. At least, I smile, and I know it isn’t pleasant, that’s what those who’ve had it say.
Pfft, morals. Who needs them?
I am a terrible guardian.
