SLPA- thanks for your input! I am not a master's level therapist but I worked for 3 years as a speech therapist assistant. I think it is so strange...PT's have PTAs...OT's have Cotas...and yet SLP's are so resistant to having assistants. In my experience I find that generally its older SLP's having the hardest time with the prospect. Either way - I agree. After 3 years as an SLPA I know that, hands down, I had more experience working in a public school environment than a freshly graduated masters student.
I had the wonderful opportunity of attending graduate school while working as an SLPA which made all the difference. I too was licensed by the state.
