I am at 63 (direct services - no consult) between two schools. I have preschool, 4-5 grade, and a special needs class (several AAC users who require one on one). I never get to lesson plan and often do paperwork at home 
I am in KY and our cap is 65. Also, did I mention I am still completing my CFY and doing our states KY Teacher Internship Year? I agree it's too many. I think 35 would be a good number and even less when working with preschool. I read somewhere when doing a school presentation that ASHA considers 25 preschoolers a caseload. If we saw fewer kids I think we could release kids a lot sooner and see much more progress.
