I have about 45 kids on my caseload, but 7 of them are children with severe needs/multiple disabilities. They require the majority of my time through research, Boardmaker-velcro-laminating, augmentative communication devices, meetings with parents and advocates, etc. Even though I only see some of them 60 minutes per week, I am working frequently on my plan day for these children. I think children with severe needs should be counted much higher on the workload chart - than just the diret therapy minutes you spend with them. My point is, states need to move to a workload model, instead of a cap on number of students model. ASHA....you take my $250 each year....help?
