I have a student that I'm assessing that is confusing me a bit. She did quite well on almost every subtest of the CELF-4 (Standard scores between 10 and 12)... but did poorly on the Sentence Structure Subtest (Standard score 5). Additionally, her performance on the Formulated Sentences subtest, although quite good, was very interesting as she didn't just formulate sentences, she formulated paragraphs for each picture. It was from these paragraphs that I began to suspect word-finding difficulties as she made MANY word substitutions (cowboy = coyote, bike = book) for words which she later named correctly. I tried the word associations subtest with her, and she listed the same answers repeatedly for each section and used words that were already primed from earlier subtests (mentioned triangle and circle since we completed RAN before word associations).
I guess what's confusing me is if it makes sense for difficulties with sentence structure and word-finding to occur together? Any opinions on this would be appreciated.
