Help! I have only worked with dysfluent preschoolers before, and now II have a group of 2 stuttering seniors, one who has had therapy for years, and the other is just beginning. Their dysfluencies are mild-moderate in severity. Both are sort of reserved/quiet, and therapy is like pulling teeth. We have practiced identifying their dysfluencies during reading activities, and they are now pretty good at telling what kind of dysfluency they had, and where. We have begun talking about slowing rate, stretching vowels, and easy onset. I feel awkward myself with easy onset, and I am rusty on the other fluency enhancing/modification techniques. I am at a loss on how to structure therapy. We have talked about feelings and attitudes, and it has been good, but again, like pulling teeth. I feel like we should practice more slowed speech/stretching in conversation, but they are minimalist. I am floundering! Help! I have come to dread the period with these 2, although they are sweet kids. I am not confident with this area. Any suggestions??
