Don't beat yourself up. It can be stressful talking to parents. It sounds like they are supportive and work with him at home. You didn't say how long he has been in therapy if he has been in longer than this year they may be feeling his therapy should have helped more. We all know that /r/ can be a difficult sound for some kids to improve.
I'm guessing your caseload is large since this student is in a group of 5 1x week. That part may be slowing his success too. But may not be something you can change.
