I have a student (2nd grader) who had his tonsils and adenoids removed in the summer. This was not recommended by me but by a MD. His resonance is HORRIBLE now! He was only working on vocalic /r/ (he met his goals for k,g,s,z,f,v already) but now he sounds hyponasal and "muffled." The MD says this will go away by itself, but how long should it take? Should I be wasting the student's time by working on vocalic /r/ when he can't control/change his resonance? All of his speech sounds are now affected! Please advise..
