During oral exam, can you visualize the soft palate? Does it look short? When he produces staccato ah's, is there any dimpling or good upward, bkward movement? Does it look like the back of the tongue is reaching the palate?
Does the palate have a high, vaulted arch? I guess I am looking for a structural reason he's backing the sound too far. If none, maybe try other placements (like velar raspberry)??? Does he use a true ing or just an in for present progressive or ing wd(what does "ringing" sound like?)?? Is it just cuz /k/ is more aspirated?
I have a new student (6 y/o w/ Autism) that actually clicks for /k,g/-he's a fronter but realizes he needs to mark the sound, so he produces a frontal click for wd-final /k.g/! I've started a cycles approach and am just trying to elicit velar raspberry sound-just to replace that click! Any suggestions for my little guy are welcome too!
