Look at your state standards and what skills are targeted for the grade levels of your students esp. in the language arts areas. Often you will see skills such as cause/effect or predicting listed. You can outline your lessons to target the same skills and work on strategies for these.
I'm not sure how it works where you are but in our district we have write up what the lesson will be - you can then make note of the connect to the standard that way.
