Posted by pat on 1/13/2002, 11:02 am The job outlook in Phila. is very good, as shortages are noted in all service delivery systems (education, rehab, geriatric, private). A "critical shortage of speech and language pathologists with a Ph.D. to teach a new generation of professionals" is also noted. So...if you are not presently a SLP but are considering this career--go for it!!! If you are already a SLP and are contemplating furthering your education beyond your master's--go for it!!! Let this be the year you take the first step toward a rewarding career. Salary note: According to the article, the average yearly SLP salary in the US is $50,479. The average SLP salary in Philadelphia is $53,457. We are always looking for good SLPs in suburban Phila, so if you are looking to make a geographical move, think Pennsylvania! :-)
In today's PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER "MegaJob" section, the spotlighted career was----ta! da!--Speech/Language Pathology! Under the headline "Opportunities for speech pathologists in Philadelphia expand in both traditional, unique settings," the article went on to describe the profession, education requirements, benefits, and job outlook. The primary benefit--the personal and professional reward of being able to give "the gift of communication" to those in need (we knew that!).
