I was working with a kindergarten and a first grade student on the pronoun "I". I told them I was going to tell them a story. It went like this..."Mrs. Brochtrup went to the grocery store. Mrs. Brochtrup got a cart. Mrs, Brochtrup found the fruit. Mrs. Brochtrup found the meat. Mrs. Brochtrup got some milk. Mrs. Brochtrup paid for the food. Mrs. Brochtrup went to her car. Mrs. Brochtrup drove home. Mrs. Brochtrup put the groceries away. Mrs. Brochtrup cooked dinner. Mrs. Brochtrup did the dishes. Mrs. Brochtrup put the dishes away...etc..." When I was done, I asked my students what was wrong with that story, hoping they would tell me that I could have used the word "I" instead of saying my name all the time. The kindergartener, bless him, looked at me and put his hand on my arm and replied, "Mrs. Brochtrup, you did too much."
