I work in a school that has a large number of Spanish-speaking families. I don't speak Spanish at all, and I wanted to create a form letter that I could send home for IEP scheduling -- to give people three choices of dates. I got a basic form letter from a regular ed teacher, and then I just tinkered with it a little to customize it for speech/language. I used a translating website, BabelFish.com, to help me with the tweaks. Then when I was done, I typed my Spanish into the BabelFish box and had it translate my message back into English...just to make sure I did it right. Oh my GOSH what a hilarious mess. It said something about "each anus" (because I hadn't typed the ~ over my "n" in ano), and it said something about being desirable and wanting a date with the person. Aagh! I quickly decided to have our professional translator do the letter for me.
