When one of my high school stuttering students arrived for therapy, he came with a little story. Seems he was on his way to speech when the school security guard stopped him and wanted to know what he was doing. My student told him that he was on his way to speech. The security guard said he didn't believe him. Having the security guard question his truthfulness really made the student nervous. So when my student answered him, he naturally stuttered. And of course, the security guard let him go. Fortunately, we all were able to laugh at this and it may be one time when stuttering actually got someone OUT of trouble!
