When I started working with Deaf students, I used any and all techniques to focus their attention on lips. I used Boardmaker to make posters with lips graphics and messages, I found lips erasers, pencil sharpeners, message clips, wind-up toys, note pads, stamps, stickers, a plush toy, picture frame, etc. to decorate the speech room and to use as prizes. Imagine, then, how excited I was to see LIPS bed sheets advertised at WalMart!!! I purchased a twin set (white sheets with pink and raspberry-colored lips scattered all over), cut them up, and made curtains (2 tie-back swags and a ruffly valance) to frame an otherwise very old and ugly bulletin board in the room. The pillow case became a great banner, with SPEECH appliqued on it in 4" letters. I expect this will give us all a lift and a smile when we return to school this week.
