When I am meeting with parents I do not like to use all those technical speech terms unless I can fully explain them. I was going over the results of testing for a very unintelligible student when I used the term "deaffrication."
Before I had a chance to draw my breath and explain what that was the parent jumped up and accused me of being racist - telling us all that her son was very proud of his African heritage and I had no business trying to take it away from him!!!
