I once enthusiastically told a 3rd grade boy that he was "graduating" from speech the next week and -- right in front of his speech group -- he burst into tears! Flattering, but not the reaction I was expecting! I now prep kids for this news at least a few weeks in advance, and I tell them privately. :-) Live and learn....
