I was rescreening Joey, a 3rd grader with a wicked /r/, to see what happened to his speech over the summer. "Hmmmm, Joey" I said, "you were starting to make a bit of progress on that /er/ sound in June..." With a grin he cut in and said, "yep, and over the summer I sank like a rock!"
Well, I wouldn't have put it quite that way, but he was right!
