Three years ago I was working as an America reads tutor at a public school in Florida. One of my students just arrived from Cuba and did not speak a word of English. I tried with her several methods of achieving English literacy, but it was too hard for her at the time. With time, patience and dedication, I finally got her to read a passage to her entire class. It was a very positive experience for both of us.
