I returned to school to become an SLP when I was 43. At 46 I was in a field study in an elementary school. I was filling in for the SLP with a group of 3rd graders. One boy asked why I was there. I said I was studying to become a speech therapist. He took a moment and replied, "It takes THAT long?"
