I was reviewing previously-taught compound words one day by using the book "One There Was a Bull...Frog" and also by giving the first part of some other words such as SNOW.....and the kids would blurt "man" or "ball. I also had MAIL...box and a few others. When I said HORSE...a 2nd grader blurted "Sh**" 
and then had no clue that that word wasn't a school word. By the way, I was looking for horseshoe!
