Before Thanksgiving, I was doing an activity with Thanksgiving trivia with a 4th grade student I see. One question was 'why did the Pilgrims leave England and come to America?' He didn't know so I said they came for religious independence. He wasn't sure what that meant so I was trying to get him to think of another word for 'independence' (freedom). I said, "They came for their freeeee......." He still didn't know it so I gave him the next sound in the word 'freedom'....."freeeeeeee d......." when he yelled, "I know --- they came for the free dinner!" That made my day!
