My classroom (yes, you read that right! PT, OT, and SLP share a classroom) is situated at the end of a long hallway. We frequently use the "back door" to sneak around to the library, gym, or 5th grade classrooms. One day I was taking one of my severe artic Kindergarteners down to the gym to meet up with his class. We went out the back door where he stopped in his tracks and looked from the cemetery to me and back with these huge eyes. His first comment? "I see dead people!" I had to cover my laughing as a coughing fit, but he continued on: "Is your mom in a graveyard? Your dad?" I told him no, my parents were at work for the day and that we had to get moving or he would miss his class. He persisted: "What about your gramma? Grampa?" I told him yes, my grandparents had died and were in a cemetery similar to the one he was looking at. With the same huge blue eyes he looked at me and replied in a soft voice, "that poor, poor man!" Sorry to say that Grandma didn't count in his little head!
