One of the first times I gave an artic/phonology test, I asked a preschool boy to label an object. He answered "Why?" For a split second I thought he was being rude. Then I realized he was actually answering my question quite politely - correctly identifying the "slide."
My other favorite pronunciation is from a high-school student. One of the aides in his special-needs classroom is named Lorraine. For a long time, his name for her was "Lord of the Rings." Say them out loud - they really do sound similar!
