Hi neighbors, we are counting every peso that we have for the clinic and it just isn't enough. The clinic is free -- but it doesn't happen for free. We rely on donations and without them we are not able to continue.
Judith sent out some personal letters to past contributors and we have gotten a few donations -- but not enough unfortunately.
We got housing donated for the visiting vets from the Dunbar's-- what a wonderful donation! We also received two large bags of sheets and towels from the Parker's - something we never have enough of! Thank you!
But, we still need to pay for all the drugs and surgical supplies and the salaries of the vets. Some of you may not know that we no longer rely on volunteer vets because l) it was hard to come up with the money to fly them here and put them up and 2) because it was hard working within their schedules.
We began partnering with Molly Fisher's PEACE organization about two years ago. They have on staff full time vets and go from town to town doing these clinics all year.
Each pueblo is responsible for providing EVERYTHING except the actual surgery. We need many more volunteers than we've had in the past. Animals have to be checked in, caged, vitals tracked, cages cleaned between usages, several people must be in the recovery section to help the animals as they come out of the anesthesia and then we must transport the animals back home. Each day there is a mountain of laundry and at the end of the clinic we must thourougly clean the facility to ensure the Senior citizens will be motivated to continue allowing us to use the facility.
Your donations pay not only for the clinic but also to aid animals in the pueblo in need through the year. We try to do the clinics twice a year (spring and fall).
I know most of you appreciate that Betty and Judith's efforts have all but eliminated the sorry looking animals scrounging for food and delivering litter after litter of unwanted cats and dogs. There has been a huge improvement -- but left untended, we will revert to where we were 10 years ago -- sick and injured homeless animals wandering the streets.
Please, if you think this project is worthwhile, look at the list below and tell us if you can help.
Volunteers - 1/2 day or full day -- we'll take what we can get of your time
Cash Donations -- we'll make it easy for you. We can accept via paypal, your property manager or send a pledge email to me at hartinsanjose@hotmail.com and I will put up the money and collect it from you when you return to SP.
Old towels, sheets, etc -- they can be delivered to me at Casa Obelisco OR tell your staff to contact me at 258-4315 and tell me where I can pick them up.
Barbara
