Posted by Pete we may need to adjust the Wolfville 8 mile route due to ongoing construction at the Melanson Bridge. Those who ran it last year may recall that the bridge was closed to vehicle traffic, but open to pedestrians. This year, it MAY be open to pedestrians by the day of the race, but it's touch and go. So... we've measured a couple of alternative routes so we will have, once again, an accurate 8 mile race course. The first alternative (which I chose) is a fair bit tougher than the old route (one more big hill which you would go up and down twice). I like this route because I think Nova Scotia runners like the idea of a challenge. :-) Steve Moores thinks you all wouldn't appreciate another big hill on what's already one of the toughest race routes in the province. So, we've measured another alternative route which is (I think) either roughly equivalent to the old route, or (maybe) a hair tougher. We'll follow up with a bit more info on the front page in the next few days before the race, but if you're familiar with the old route, here are the differences: - the start and finish will be exactly the same, starting in front of Acadia on Main Street and finishing on the Acadia track For those of you who, like me, pay close attention to the splits, the mile splits are all fairly accurate with the exception of mile 2, which is roughly 50m long (and all uphill, hee hee). This is where we make up the small additional distance to make sure the route is accurately measured (ie. not short) for record purposes. The water stops will also be in new locations this year, to suit the revised layout. I don't know where we'll put them yet, but will have that info posted up next week. This'll be a great opportunity for a couple of people to set new course records that should stand for eternity, as we'll likely only ever run this route once. So come on out and challenge yourself!

Folks,
- you will still run east on Main to Maple, then up Maple to the top of the hill (just past the overpass for the 101)
- instead of continuing down the long gradual hill to the Melanson bridge and then running along the Gaspereau River, you will turn right at the top of the hill onto Ridge Road
- you will run along Ridge Road (rolling hills) about a mile to the first intersection, which is Gasperau Ave. This is the road you normally run up from the valley and then into town. Instead of turning right toward town, you will head left and run down the long hill into the valley floor
- you'll stay on this road to the turnaround point about halfway between the two bridges over the river
- after the turnaround, you head back up the long hill, then down the long hill into town
- once in town, you go left at the bottom of the hill on Main Street, then turn right into the Acadia track for the finishing sprint
