The following message was forwarded to me by our Department of Tourism, Culture and Heritage and is being posted here as an FYI for any marathoners with an interest in history or dressing up in funny clothes.

On Sunday December 14, the Town of Hastings (yes, as in The Battle of...) is organising a special 100th Anniversary Marathon which we would like to invite your community to take part in. This seeks to re-create the famous marathon which took place in the town in 1908, the
same year that London last held the Olympic Games.
The Marathon builds on the success of the Hastings half-marathon, held annually, which has been voted the best half-marathon in the UK
by the renowned Running World Magazine. All parties involved in the event will be encouraged to dress in 1908 attire, with the addition
of ‘Penny Farthing Bicyles’, horses and carts and carrier pigeons! It is hoped to have some 1908 motor vehicles lead the race. Organised by
the Lions Club of Hastings, it will be as in 1908, to raise funds for the needy in Hastings, and to promote our famous towns.
