Posted by Leslie MacPhee The Honolulu Marathon is one of the world’s largest marathons with over 26,000 international participants last year. Fireworks announce the beginning of the marathon on Ala Moana Boulevard, the “path by the ocean.” The course passes by world-famous Waikiki Beach and Diamond Head and Koko Head volcanic craters. The terrain is level except for short uphill grades around Diamond Head. This premier destination event incorporates the welcoming spirit for which the Hawaiian people are renowned. Team Diabetes Canada is the national fundraising program for the Canadian Diabetes Association, which raises awareness about the benefits of a healthy lifestyle for people with diabetes as well as those trying to prevent type 2 diabetes. In return for raising a minimum of $6,200 for the Canadian Diabetes Association, we provide you with the following; - Return airfare, 7 nights accommodation and some meals More than two million Canadians have diabetes and this number is expected to increase to over 3 million by 2010. Participants have walked and run thousands of kilometres, lost almost 30,000 pounds and raised more than $8.5 million for the work of the Canadian Diabetes Association.
