Posted by Carly on 6/9/2004, 3:43 pm The event, will be the likes this country has never seen since Lyndon Johnson 31 years-ago in 1973, prior to that in 1963 when John F. Kennedy died. The National Honor events will be held in the next three days in the nation's capital city starting at 4pm Eastern time today in Washington. Tune on tv for live coverage. CNN and Fox News Channel reports that nearly every single President past will have a family member at Reagan's funeral Friday to represent each President. The two Nixon daughters (Tricia and Julie), JFK's daughter Caroline along with Senator Ted Kennedy of Massachussetts; Pres. Harry S. Truman's daughter Margaret, Chelsea Clinton (and Pres Clinton and Hillary will be there too of course), two grandsons of Pres. Teddy (Theodore) Roosevelt; Pres. Franklin D. Roosevelt's grandson and grand-daughter; Pres. Chester Arthur's distant fourth generation cousin; Pres. George Washington's great-great-great-great granddaughter as well as several assortment of relatives of former Presidents Grant, Jefferson, Taft, Lincoln, Polk, Van Buren, Andrew Johnson, Millard Fillmore, Grover Cleveland, Harding, Tyler, Eisenhower, Hoover, and Woodrow Wilson. They all will be followed by every living former California Governor and Calif. First Ladies, and also a representative of each State Governor of America will be there at request of each current state governor to represtate all states and American territories (my state, our gov. is sending our Lt. Governor and Vermont is sending their current Vermont State Sumpreme Court Chief Justice). All living Reagan cabinet members, appointed Supreme Court Justices, and dozens of former Calif. Gov. and White House staffers will attend along with a representative of ailing Rev. Billy Graham and Pope John Paul will send a special representative to represent the land of Poland and the Catholic Church. When Reagan said "Tear down this wall" in 1987, he also meant free the people of East Germany, Czech Republic and Poland, the Pope's home country. Thee white Peace Doves in a handcrafted cage designed by schoolchildren of Poland will accompany the Pope's representative to the funeral. The former President of Poland, Lech Walesa will also attend along with dignataries of six former Soviet countries along with honor guards. As tradition, all living former and the current Presidents and Vice Presidents will attend as well---Ford, Carter, Bush, Clinton, G.W. Bush....VPs--Walter F. Mondale, J. Danforth Quayle, Albert A. Gore, Jr., and Richard B. Cheney along with Lady Bird (Claudia Taylor)Johnson, the ailing former First Lady, and her two daughters and son-in-law (former VA Senator Charles Robb). The State of California will send the entire Congressional Delegation, Mr. Edward Reineke who was Reagan's Lt. Governor during eight years Reagan was Calif. Governor; and the two senators (Diane Feinstein and Barbara Boxer--both Democrats!!). And lastly, as a respect from around the world, a record number of Presidents, Kings, Queens, Prime Ministers, Envoys, Ambassadors, and appointed representatives of nearly 145 countries from around the world will present their credentials, flowers, and their attendance at the National Memorial Service to the late President Ronald Wilson Reagan Friday morning 11:30 Eastern time/10:30 Central time) televised live around the world. In an unusual move, Pres. G.W. Bush has ordered that the American airplane sent to bring Ronald Reagan's body to and from Washington, D.C. will be titled "Air Force One--SAM" (Special Aircraft Mission) rather than "Air Force Two" and the entire White House staff and grounds crew, some who have been there since Reagan was president, will great the body at the front gates of the White House as the horse-driven caisson moves past the former leaders historic home. Reagan's coyboy boots from his old ranch have been sent to Washington to be used on the Riderless honor horse in the procession, and Former British Prime Minister, Margaret Thatcher, against doctors orders, has left London to attend the funeral in Washington, DC and has voice taped a eulogy in honor of her former peace partner while ex-Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev will present Russia's highest honor medal and ribbons to Nancy Reagan. Lastly, CNN reports that in a symbolic acknowlegment of thanks and recognition of Reagan signing into law "Martin Luther King Day" holiday, the beloved Coretta Scott King and Rev. Jesse Jackson (who helped Reagan free hostages three times in different countries), will be there to honor the late President who often called upon both for advice and assistance especially regarding racial issues. Finally, most moving of all and at the urging of the late President, thousands of Americans, many who never voted for Reagan or didn't like some of his politics, will pay resects by the thousands at the Capitol and along the honor parade route. Each mourner will recieve, as they did today in California, a souvineer thank you card with the gold Presidential Seal and a handwritten message the late President wrote in advance for this purpose, which says "Thank you America for remembering me and I treasure your friendship and love, always, Ronald Reagan". It will be an event Friday morning worthy of watching and vcr taping. Lets hope all five Miss Americas will wear black and can be seen during the massive live funeral coverage. It all starts today, Wednesday, live at 4pm Eastern time when the body of the late President arrives in Washington, DC.

The Miss America Organization represented by five Miss America winners will honor President Rondald Wilson Reagan during the Somber National State Honor Funeral Friday morning. The news account from Atlantic City says that current Miss America, Ericka Dunlap will fly to Washington, DC to meet up with four other Miss America winners to attend the funeral and represent the pageant. The four former winners were symbolically chosen and they accepted when asked to attend. They are Miss America 1955, Lee Ann Meriwether (who hails from Reagan's California and also part of the Hollywood scene as was Reagan); Miss America 1983, Debra Sue Maffett (also represented California when she won the title in 1982 and who wore the Miss America crown while Reagan was President, and met him several times during this period); Miss America 1971, Phyllis George (who was once a First Lady herself (of Kentucky) and has known the Reagans for years); and Miss America 1991, Marjorie Vincent (who hails from Reagan's birthstate Illinois). Ericka will be in good company.
