Walter George Evans

My mother is 91 years of age and her father was a quartermaster sergeant in the Royal Artillery. His name was Walter George Evans. He died at the age of 51 in February 1943. My mother can remember parts of living in barracks at Deepcut, Salisbury Plain and also she remembers a building in Southampton when she was around 5 years of age (1934 approx). The building had a large church nearby or opposite. The building had 2 large iron gates with 2 small cannons either side. She recalls the large building with snooker rooms. They lived in an apartment above this. At the rear was a large horse stable. She can also recall parts of her brother Sidney who was killed in the cookhouse falling into a vat of boiling water. I would like to take my mother back to Southampton to see this building but do not know where precisely it is. Could you please be of any help? Any other information regarding my Grandfather would also be very helpful. My mothers name is Blanche Elsie May Cox (formerly Evans).
