Hi Taff,
Many thanks for getting in touch. My father was somehow linked with the Royal West Kents in Burma. His papers show that he was in the 4th Field Royal Artillery, he left Greenock in Scotland and arrived at Deolali Transit Camp in April 1943. It seems he was with the 5th India Division.
What we cant understand is that he always said that he was at the Siege of Kohima. But some experts on a forum told me that the 4th Field RA were not at the Siege of Kohima with the West Kents.
So I had a researcher check a few things out. He didn't find much but in a Book called 'The Battles of Imphal and Kohima' it describes some men from 4th Field Regiment and a 25 pounder that 'came under command'of the West Kents on the 7th April at the start of the siege. It arrived from Dimapur.
Dad always said he flew in to Dimapur on a Dakota and took part in the siege, is there anywhere else I might be able to find out more information. I have gone through most of the books on Burma.
But it does seem men from 4th Field Royal Artillery were at the Siege of Kohima, its just so difficult to get more details!
