Hello Perla,
Peter Gallagher mentioned your quest, and I see he mentioned the photo of me and your dad taken after we had won the Regimental "Alarm Stakes" competition for D Troop in 1958. I served with your dad at Sheerness and Lingfield, during which time we went to Suez and Cyprus. I also knew your mother, and I can well recall seeing you and your brother as kids in the married qtrs in Sheerness, although I seem to remember seeing three kids around?; I remember your dad was very proud of his family, and was a real 'family man'. When my wife and I moved into our first married qtr in the next block to you your mum made up a set of curtains from some materiel which we had bought in town, she was very talented with a sewing machine as I remember, - we still had the curtains right up to a couple of years ago, (although we hadn't used them for many a long day!) By the way is your mum still alive? - I lost contact with your dad when the Regiment, (which was 34 Regt RA)went to Malaya in August 1960. Your dad was posted to some other Regiment, I never did find out where, but I heard he eventually left the army and settled in Sheerness and worked as a manager of some sort of retail business. I visited Sheerness in 1997, and thought I might come across him, I even looked in the local telephone directories, hoping to see the name, but no such luck. I have often wondered what happened to him and how he was getting on - sadly now I know. I have another little photo of your dad taken in Cyprus which he 'autographed' for me! I shall attempt to send it in a seperate email as an attachment.
If you would like to know anything else about that period, Peter and I I'm sure will do our best to help.My email address is Exray842@aol.com, and my friends call me Alf.
